Childish

Sometimes after I have spent time in scripture, I wished I hadn't. It always seems to seek out my biggest weakness and cuts me deep to the heart. I guess that is the whole reason I study. I need to be cut, shaped, twisted, molded... Whatever word you would like to use.

I started in James yesterday and made it to 1:5 this morning. It says that if we lack wisdom, we should ask God and he will provide. Simple enough. All I need to do is ask. Should have stopped reading there.

v6-8 - "But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will recieve anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does".

So let me get this straight. I also need to have my attitude in line when I ask God for something, and then believe that he will provide what's best for me. I can't whine and pout when I don't get exactly everything I have asked for. I often attribute to God major character flaws that I know couldn't possibly exist in Him. I accuse Him of doing things in my life because he gets a kick out of causing me pain and misery. Kinda childish isn't it.

The truth is that through perseverence comes maturity. (yesterday's lesson) So I guess I will try to move toward being a more mature Christian by expecting God to give me the things I need realizing they won't always be exactly what I thought I wanted.

Lord, Grant me wisdom.
Lord, Give me courage.
Lord, Give me what I need.

Crisis Of Belief

If anyone out there has taken the "Experiencing God" study by Henry Blackaby, you may recognize the title of this post. There comes a time when we are faced with a decision, or a life event that causes us to rely on what we know to be true about God and His character. The problem is, we don't always pass this test. Often we choose to rely on our understanding, which almost always causes a "freak out". How can "we" solve the problem. How in the world will "we" deal with this situation. How will "we" ever get through this.

It seems I am at this point so the following is for my benefit. If anyone reads it I hope it help you to.

God is in control.
God knows what he is doing.
What God is doing is best.
God's love for me is unfathomable.
Everything God has for me is everything I need.

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, nor mind has concieved what the lord has prepared for those who love Him.

Unfailing Love

Psalm 119:41

" May Your unfailing love come to me, O Lord
Your salvation according to Your promise".

Anybody here ever experience something that fails. A computer, car, copy machine, or anything electronic? How about a friend, a relative, a brother, or a spouse. I read an intersting quote about God's love once and I think it is relevant here.

" God's love never ceases. Never. Though we spurn Him. Ignore Him. Reject Him. Despise Him. Disobey Him. He will not change. Our evil can not diminish His love. Our goodness can not increase it. Our faith does not earn it anymore than our stupidity jeopardizes it. God doesn't love us less if we fail or more if we succeed. God's love never ceases." - Max Lucado

I think that says it all.
